Where We Ate in Cannon Beach, Oregon: Coffee, Breweries, and a Dinner Worth Repeating

During our stay in Cannon Beach, we fit in coffee walks, breakfast outside, brewery stops, and a dinner we enjoyed enough to order two nights in a row.

Food is always part of the fun when Garrett and I travel, and I do consider ourselves foodies! I like trying things I wouldn’t normally have at home, but as this trip proved, I’m also perfectly happy to repeat a meal when I find something I love.

Here’s where we ate and drank during our Cannon Beach getaway.

Pelican Brewing: Our First Stop Before Check-In

While we waited for our room at Hallmark Resort & Spa to be ready, we stopped at Pelican Brewing.

We sat at the bar and Garrett ordered a flight of four local beers, and I tried the Marionberry Margarita, which was on special. Marionberry caught my attention because it wasn’t something I’d ever tried, and definitely not a fruit that is common in Texas. Garrett enjoyed his beer and the marionberry margarita was delicious!

We didn’t try any food, but the drinks and service at the bar were great. The restaurant itself was busy and had a lively atmosphere. Guests were sitting both inside and outside. This restaurant was super close to the HalImark Inn & Spa so it was just a quick walk to get there! It was a great spot to give us somewhere to settle in and enjoy a drink before checking into our room.

The Alchemy Lounge by MacGregor’s: A Dinner We Ordered Twice

For our first dinner in Cannon Beach, we went to The Alchemy Lounge by MacGregor’s tucked inside the Cannon Beach Hotel. This intimate restaurant offers “a thoughtful selection of craft cocktails, unique small plates, local beers, and curated wines—but our true focus is whiskey.” The restaurant is small, and we got one of two of the open tables available when we walked in. Note: Alchemy Lounge does not take reservations and is limited to 21+.

We started with bacon-wrapped dates and bread and butter. For our entrées, Garrett ordered a cheeseburger, and I chose the brown butter truffle pasta with salmon added for protein.

We enjoyed the meal so much that we went back the following evening and ordered the exact same entrées. With only a short stay in town, returning to the same restaurant and repeating our orders probably says more than anything else I could write about how much we liked it.

The second night, we skipped the appetizers because we’d had a late lunch. We did try a pickled egg, though. The restaurant had several different house-made options to choose from, and we were curious enough to give one a try. It wasn’t bad, and Garrett even enjoyed it. Probably a one and done for me!

On the second night, Garrett also treated himself to a neat pour of Weller Single Barrel. I drank a French 75, my favorite cocktail.

Kith & Keel: Mexican Mocha and a Morning Walk

The next morning was our full day in Cannon Beach, and we started by walking to Kith & Keel for coffee. It was still cool and foggy outside, so by the time we made it to the shop, we were ready for something warm!

I ordered a Mexican mocha and loved it. I also loved the cozy feel inside, it was perfect for a damp, foggy morning.

We took our coffees and strolled for a little while before eventually stopping for breakfast. These elk drew quite the crowd of onlookers, including us!

Local Grill & Scoop: Breakfast Outside

After our coffee walk, we stopped at Local Grill & Scoop and sat outside for breakfast.

I had eggs Benedict, while Garrett went with a classic breakfast of eggs over medium, toast, bacon, and breakfast potatoes.

Between the coffee, our walk, and breakfast outdoors, we had a slow morning before heading to Ecola State Park for our hike.

Public House: A Late Lunch After Hiking

After our hike at Ecola State Park, we stopped at Public House for a late lunch.

Garrett ordered the Brewer’s plate and an IPA. I had a cup of chowder and onion rings, along with a flight of the blueberry-flavored beers and ciders available.

My flight was a fun way to try several different drinks instead of choosing just one. I’m not a big beer/cider drinker, so a flight is always the best option for me. Between my marionberry margarita the day before and the blueberry flight here, I ended up doing a little fruit-themed tasting of my own on this trip.

This was our post-hike meal, and because we ate later in the day, we kept dinner simpler that evening, back at The Alchemy Lounge for our repeat orders.

How Our Food Stops Fit Into Two Days in Cannon Beach

If you’re planning a similar stay, here’s how we worked these stops into our visit:

Arrival day

  • Drinks at Pelican Brewing while waiting for our room.
  • Dinner at The Alchemy Lounge by MacGregor’s.

Our full day

  • Coffee at Kith & Keel, followed by a stroll.
  • Breakfast outside at Local Grill & Scoop.
  • Hiking at Ecola State Park.
  • A late lunch and drinks at Public House.
  • Dinner at The Alchemy Lounge for the second night.

We had a mix of trying new things and returning to a favorite. The Mexican mocha, the marionberry margarita, and my brown butter truffle pasta each gave me something different to remember about the trip.

And if you find yourself debating whether to try somewhere new or go back for the same dinner again, we clearly have no problem choosing the repeat.

Until the next trip,
Kris
